Title: To approve the Memorandum of Understanding #2024-02 executed between representatives of the City of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Police, Capital City Lodge #9, which provides pay at double the straight time hourly rate for Police Officers, Police Sergeants, and Police Lieutenants who work voluntary scheduled overtime posted as 2024 City Special Operation, as provided in the attachment hereto; and to declare an emergency.

The passage of this ordinance indicates City Council’s approval of MOU #2024-02, a copy of which is attached hereto.

Emergency action is recommended in order to allow for expedient implementation in order to adequately staff the City Special Operation 2024.

To approve the Memorandum of Understanding #2024-02 executed between representatives of the City of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Police, Capital City Lodge #9, which provides pay at double the straight time hourly rate for Police Officers, Police Sergeants, and Police Lieutenants who work voluntary scheduled overtime posted as 2024 City Special Operation, as provided in the attachment hereto; and to declare an emergency.


Body

WHEREAS, representatives of the City of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Police, Capital City Lodge #9 entered into Memorandum of Understanding #2024-02, a copy of which is attached hereto, which temporarily amends Article 22 of the Agreement between the City and the Fraternal Order of Police, Capital City Lodge #9, December 9, 2023 through December 8, 2026, by providing pay at double the straight time hourly rate for Police Officers, Police Sergeants, and Police Lieutenants who work voluntary scheduled overtime posted as 2024 City Special Operation beginning May 23, 2024 at 4:00pm and lasting until December 31, 2024 at 11:59pm; and

WHEREAS, emergency action is recommended in order to implement the terms of the MOU in a timely manner; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Departments of Human Resources and Public Safety in that it is immediately necessary to amend the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City and Fraternal Order of Police, Capital City Lodge #9, by approving Memorandum of Understanding #2024-02 in order to allow for expedient implementation so as to adequately staff the City Special Operation beginning May 23, 2024; all for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, property, safety, and welfare; and...
