To Recognize and Celebrate Cheryl Brooks Sullivan as a Distinguished Honoree of the 2024 Columbus Urban League Herstory Makers Event

 

Body

WHEREAS, Thursday, May 16, 2024 is the Columbus Urban League’s annual Herstory Makers signature event, which will honor eight trailblazing women in Central Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks Sullivan was born in Columbus, Ohio, and spent her early childhood in England as her father served in the United States Air Force as a member of the Tuskegee Airmen; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Brooks Sullivan was elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020 as the first African American to serve as Franklin County Treasurer and the first African American woman to serve in any Franklin County office; and

WHEREAS, Since 1980, she has been involved in the management, administration, appraisal and sale of real estate in Central Ohio. She also is an avid community volunteer, public servant and veteran, having served in the Central Intelligence Division of the U.S. Army Security Agency. She completed her military assignment in 1977; and

 

WHEREAS, As an avid community volunteer, Ms. Brooks Sullivan also serves as a Trustee of the Greater Columbus Arts Council and as a Board member for Ohio Legal Help. She also is affiliated with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Central Ohio Chapter, and the Columbus, Ohio Chapter of the NAACP and she is the proud mother of two daughters and a grandmother of four; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council recognizes and celebrates Cheryl Brooks Sullivan as a Distinguished Honoree at the 2024 Columbus Urban League Herstory Makers Event.
