Explanation
1. Background
The Department of Public Service, Division of Infrastructure Management, recently received a request from Shiloh Baptist Church to rename the roadway currently known as Edward Street, from the east right-of-way line of Hamilton Avenue to the west right-of-way line of Saint Clair Avenue, to “Otha Gilyard Street”.
The aforementioned request will allow the abutting property owner(s) to honor the late Reverend Dr. Otha Gilyard. The proposed name, “Otha Gilyard Street”, conforms to the Division’s current street naming policies and has been reserved until such time that this request has been completed, or denied. The Division of Infrastructure Management has circulated concurrent notification to the City agencies without objection. Shiloh Baptist Church has satisfactorily completed all of the requirements for renaming of a city street and has agreed to pay associated cost for removing existing street name signs and installing new signs reflecting said street name at the required location(s) of Otha Gilyard Street.
2. Fiscal Impact
There is no fiscal impact to renaming the street.
