To Recognize and Celebrate the Ohio Hispanic Coalition’s Soy Latina Victim Empowerment Services Program and their Work to End Domestic Violence

WHEREAS, the City of Columbus recognizes community-based initiatives that are trauma-informed, client-centered, culturally/linguistically-responsive that effectively serve and reflect the diversity of our growing communities.

WHEREAS, since 1990, the Ohio Hispanic Coalition has been a leading voice of advocacy for the Latino/Hispanic communities throughout the City, improving the wellbeing and quality of life of all Latinos through advocacy, education, training, and access to quality services.

WHEREAS, its Soy Latina Victim Empowerment Services Program (I am Latina) provides empowerment services for Latino/Hispanic victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence, family violence, human trafficking, and other victims of crime since 1999.

WHEREAS, the program trains bilingual/bi-cultural community members to serve as victim advocates, educators, and caseworkers grounded in the traditions and beliefs within the Latino culture as Promotora Specialists.

WHEREAS, the Promotora Specialists cater to the individualized needs Latino/Hispanic victims to create a safe place where they have access to information, advocacy, support, and wraparound services that are culturally and linguistically-responsive of Latino/Hispanic communities.

WHEREAS, the Soy Latina Victim Empowerment Services Program has empowered countless Latino/Hispanic victims on their healing journey utilizing the traditional methods utilized within the Latino culture to promote safe, healthy, and independent lives for all residents.

WHEREAS, the Ohio Hispanic Coalition continues to educate and empower our communities to actively engage in the movement to end domestic violence.
