Explanation
Need: An additional appropriation is needed for the City of Columbus Division of Police 2007 National Forensic Science Improvement Act Grant. Funds were previously awarded and appropriated for specialized reference materials and travel and training costs for Columbus Police Crime Lab personnel. Due to unforeseeable circumstances a Crime Lab employee was unable to attend one of the grant funded training courses. The vendor has refunded this course fee which now needs reappropriated to be used for additional training costs. The extended grant award period end date is November 30, 2008 and therefore emergency legislation is needed to make these funds available at the earliest possible time.
Emergency Designation: Emergency legislation is needed to make the funds available as soon as possible because the extended grant award period ends November 30, 2008.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact for the City General Fund Account. No matching funds are required and all grant expenditures will be reimbursed by the grant awarded funding.
