WHEREAS, Clayola Brown currently serves as the Director of Civil, Human, and Women’s Rights at the International AFL-CIO, a role she has held since 2021; and
WHEREAS, since 2004, Clayola has also led the A. Philip Randolph Institute, an AFL-CIO constituency focused on African-American Trade Unionists; and
WHEREAS, Clayola’s career has been marked by a committed to organized labor, starting at the Textile Workers Union of America and serving in several roles where she advanced labor rights in academic, political, and economic environments; and
WHEREAS, Clayola is among the foremost advocates for trade unionism and support for African-American workers and this award is a well-earned recognition of decades of commitment to her fellow workers; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council celebrates Clayola Brown and congratulates her on receiving the 2023 Marlene Hill-Powell Special Recognition Award at the 34th Annual Labor Salute to Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Brunch
