To honor, recognize and celebrate John Stephen Bowers for his personal and professional accomplishments and exceptional service to the City of Columbus on the occasion of his retirement and ninetieth birthday.  
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, John Bowers was born on October 8, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio where he is a lifelong resident; pursued his education, career, served his community and met his wife, Barbara B. Bowers, and together they raised four daughters; and
 
WHEREAS, John graduated from North High School in 1939, received his bachelor of arts in Spanish at age 20 and a master's degree in political science in 1945 from The Ohio State University; and
 
WHEREAS, he pursued a Bachelor in Laws from Franklin University Law School in 1958 and later a Juris Doctorate from Capital University in 1966; and
 
WHEREAS, he was a practicing attorney in Columbus for 53 years and active in the local democratic party which he served for over 20 years as the 19th Ward Democratic Committeeman; and
 
WHEREAS, he taught evening business law courses at Franklin University for approximately 20 years and remains a loyal Buckeye; missing only a dozen home games since 1939; and
 
WHEREAS, John has taken many adventurous trips to Mexico with his wife and daughters and continues to remain active by dancing and spending time with his family; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby honor, recognize and celebrate John Stephen Bowers for his personal and professional accomplishments and exceptional service to the City of Columbus on the occasion of his retirement and ninetieth birthday.
