TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE COLUMBUS, OHIO ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY ON THEIR
70TH ANNIVERSARY
Body
WHEREAS, the Columbus, Ohio Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was established on May 20, 1934, as the 66th Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc; and,
WHEREAS, this chapter was chartered by 23 women and on
March 11, 1979, the status of Honorary Charter member was given to Edith Cousins for being such a devoted member of the chapter and the community. This was the first such distinction given to any chapter in the Sorority; and,
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has provided 70 years of commitment to sisterhood, scholarship and service in the Columbus community in the following ways: Volunteering at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank; the annual Walk Against Domestic Violence; the United Negro College Fund Walk-a-Thon; serving youth through Delta Teen Lift (13-18); Project D.E.L.T.A., Delta Academy (11-14); Monthly Read-Ins; Delta Scholarship Fund; Support to the women and their children of the Holy Rosary Shelter through the donation of toiletries and linens and the hosting of the annual picnic for the families and other holiday events; and hosting annual Delta Days at the State Capitol, wherein Deltas from around the state meet with legislators to discuss relevant issues; and,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: that this Council does hereby honor and recognize the 70th Anniversary of the Columbus, Ohio Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and does hereby designate, Thursday, May 20, 2004, as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Day within the City of Columbus.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that a copy of this Resolution be presented to the Columbus, Ohio Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority as a token of our esteem.
