In Recognition of Mr. Trevor Birney Presenting the Documentary “Murder of a GAA Chairman” to the Citizens of Columbus, Ohio

WHEREAS, this Council recognizes The Irish American community of Central Ohio and the citizens of Columbus are privileged to be the first in the State to view the acclaimed documentary, “Murder of a GAA Chairman”; and
WHEREAS, Only two other cities in the United States, Philadelphia and Rockland, located outside of New York City, have hosted a viewing of this acclaimed documentary; and
WHEREAS, The documentary explores the Brown family’s decades long journey for justice following Seán Brown’s murder on May 12, 1997 by the Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF) in collusion with British government agents. Twenty-eight years after Seán Brown’s murder no one has been prosecuted for his murder; and
WHEREAS, Seán Brown was the Chairman of the Bellaghy Wolfe Tones Gaelic Athletic Association Club located in south Derry outside of Bellaghy. He was held in high esteem in his community and across Ireland and his dedication to the Gaelic Athletic Association was unquestionable; and
WHEREAS, As a result of the gracious sponsorship provided by the Central Ohio Irish Cultural Foundation, the Central Ohio Irish American community privileged to be among the first in the United States, and the first in Ohio, to view this celebrated documentary; and
WHEREAS, Trevor Birney, the producer of “Murder of a GAA Chairman”, is a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and Emmy-nominated producer, award-winning director, and the founder of Fine Point Films; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That it is with honor and esteem that we recognize Mr. Trevor Birney and welcome him to Columbus, Ohio and express our gratitude to them for bringing this acclaimed documentary to Ohio.
