Explanation

BACKGROUND: The Board of Health has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Health. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $3,506,045 in grant money to fund the Women, Infants and Children grant program, for the period October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004.The primary objective of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is to provide nutritionally desirable food and nutrition education to pregnant and lactating women, infants and children at nutritional risk in Franklin County who meet categorical, income and nutritional risk requirements for eligibility.This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Women, Infants and Children Program is entirely funded by the Ohio Department of Health. This program does not generate any revenue or require a City match.

Body

WHEREAS, $3,506,045 in grant funds have been made available through the Ohio Department of Health for the Women, Infants and Children program for the period of October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004; and,

WHEREAS, it is necessary to accept and appropriate these funds from the Ohio Department of Health for the continued support of the WIC program; and,

WHEREAS, this ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management; and,
