Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance amends the Columbus City Codes to reflect the transfer of the duties of the Telecommunications Division to the Information Services Division. As part of the 2006 budget, costs associated with the government television channel and the interconnect were shifted to the information services division and fund. This shift was in conjunction with the decision to deposit cable TV permit fees into the general fund beginning in 2006.

FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no financial impact resulting from this ordinance. The 2006 budget reflects this transfer.

To amend Chapter 225 of the Columbus City Codes, 1959, to reflect the transfer of the duties of the Telecommunications Division to the Information Services Division, and to declare an emergency.

Body

WHEREAS, the 2006 budget shifted the costs associated with the government television channel and the interconnect to the information services division and fund; and

WHEREAS, this shift was in conjunction with the decision to deposit cable TV permit fees into the general fund beginning in 2006; and

WHEREAS, an amendment to the City Codes is necessary to reflect these changes; and

WHERAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the City of Columbus in that it is immediately necessary to amend the Columbus City Codes to reflect the above changes, thereby preserving the public health, peace, property, safety, and welfare; now, therefore:

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS

SECTION 1. That existing Chapter 225 of the Columbus City Codes, 1959, be amended to read as follows:

225.01 Department of technology established.
There is established a department of technology. The department of technology shall have as its primary duties developing recommendations for information technology management policy, procedures, and standards; identifying opportunities to share information resources; and assessing and addressing the need...
