To Recognize the Community Service Work of the Miss Black Ohio America Pageant

WHEREAS, The Miss Black Ohio America Pageant, founded in 1982 by Verna Wood Adams, has recognized and celebrated the beauty and talent of African-American women in Ohio; and
WHEREAS, the winner of each annual Miss Black Ohio America Pageant has represented Ohio in the national Miss Black America Pageant and demonstrated the beauty and talent of African-American women in Ohio for a national audience; and
WHEREAS, the Miss Black Ohio America Pageant has given countless Black women in Ohio the chance to pursue higher education with scholarships, including over $10,000 worth of scholarships in the past ten years alone; and
WHEREAS, the Miss Black Ohio America Pageant has contributed to Ohio communities with a large network of mentorship that spans five major Ohio counties; and
WHEREAS, the 41st annual Miss Black Ohio America Pageant, which will be held on June 17th of 2023, will celebrate the beauty and talent of nine Black women representing five different Ohio counties; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council recognizes the community service work of the Miss Black Ohio America Pageant
