Explanation

Background:
- A modification to Contract No. CT-19117 is needed for additional professional services related to the Dodge Center Design.
- Amount of additional funds to be expended: $159,571.94. The original contract cost was $310,958.00; the total modified cost is $470,529.94.
- Reasons additional goods/services could not be foreseen initially: Design plan had to be revised. Original design was to renovate existing building. It has been determined to be in the Department's best interest to demolish the existing building and build new rather than renovate. Additional services requested are design development, site analysis, construction documents, and additional reimbursables. Additional costs are also associated with the length of time from when consultant was hired until project was bid.
- Reasons other procurement processes are not used: It is in the City's best interest to have the contractor finish the project due to the contractor being familiar with the job.
- How cost of modification was determined: A proposal has been reviewed and approved by the Recreation and Parks Department for the additional work under the terms and conditions of the original contract.
- The Contract Compliance Number for Schooley Caldwell Associates., is #31-0972509.
- Emergency legislation is requested as a majority of the work is complete and construction is set to begin in August 2004.

Fiscal Impact:
- $159,571.94 is required and budgeted in the Voted 1995 and 1999 Parks and Recreation Bond Fund to meet the financial obligation of this contract modification.
