Explanation
Background:
-This ordinance will enable the Director of the Office of Education to accept a grant, enter into an agreement with The United Way of Central Ohio., and provide for the appropriation of said funds to the Education Private Grant Fund No. 291.
-Private grant funding will be used in connection with community education through the Neighborhood Safety Academy
-The Neighborhood Safety Academy will train citizens on safety issues and problem solving and include mediation skill building, personal safety education, resident involvement strategies, creating safe environments, and how to help youth stay safe. Graduates of an academy will join block watches, mentor neighbors, and promote neighborhood pride.
-In order to prevent a halt in the delivery of the pilot programs, we are requesting that this piece of legislation be handled as emergency. The funds are immediately necessary.
Mission:
To create a partnership of the City and citizens to engage resident driven solutions to neighborhood safety by:
o Engaging public in the safety of the community
o Community building, neighborhood pride and empowerment
o The reduction of perception of lawlessness
o Opening dialogue between safety personnel and citizens to build trust and respect
Fiscal Impact:
-$5,000.00 in private grant funding will be used for community education programming through the Neighborhood Safety Academy.
-This ordinance will be to reduce the Education Private Grant Fund No. 291 unappropriated balance by $5,000.00
-The expenditure of $5,000.00 is budgeted in the Education Private Grant Fund No. 291.
