To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of I KNOW I CAN.

Whereas, I KNOW I CAN is a non-profit organization that gives every qualified Columbus Public School District graduate the opportunity to go to college; and
 
Whereas, I KNOW I CAN was founded in 1988 with the belief that every child who wishes to pursue higher education should have the opportunity to do so and should not be denied that right because of his or her economic status; and
 
Whereas, I KNOW I CAN motivates students to stay in school and pursue college, advises students and parents how to apply to college and access financial aid, funds students with Last Dollar Grants and leverage additional financial aid assistance, and supports students once in college to help ensure completion; and
 
Whereas, I KNOW I CAN has established one of the largest and most successful college access programs nationwide and the only one in Columbus, awarding more than $16 million in college grants and more than $202 million of additional financial assistance for students; and
 
Whereas, I KNOW I CAN has served more than 52,000 students through college admissions and financial aid counseling and has nearly 200 program volunteers annually, donating approximately 9,000 hours of service; and
 
Whereas, I KNOW I CAN believes that by removing the motivational, informational and financial roadblocks to success, we can help level the educational playing field for Columbus city students and graduates; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That we do hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of I KNOW I CAN and congratulates this wonderful organization in their successes with the students of Columbus Public Schools.
