To honor and recognize Laverne Reed and the Chocolate Nutcracker and to welcome the Production back to Columbus.
Body
WHEREAS, LaVerne Reed is a nationally renowned writer, artistic director and choreographer and has been instrumental in developing fine young talent in "Dance Theatre" for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, The Chocolate Nutcracker is a community event with strong community involvement including, churches, schools, civic groups, local businesses/corporations and other theatrical troupes and choreographers; and
WHEREAS, The Choclate Nutcracker is an exciting multi-cultural spin off of the classic Tchaikovsky "Nutcracker" ballet and includes an educational component that teaches the youth performers and the audience about diverse cultural heritages as well as the historical culture and social background of other ethnic and cultural groups; and
WHEREAS, The 2007 production of The Chocolate Nutcracker will mark its fifth presentation in Columbus with two days of performances at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, November 9th & 10th at 7:30 p.m.; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That the Columbus City Council welcomes LaVerne Reed and The Chocolate Nutcracker back to Columbus and recognizes the production for its invaluable contribution to the arts and community in Columbus.
