Explanation

Background: This legislation authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into a professional services contract for the Facilities Management Division with Advanced Engineering Consultants, for professional engineering services associated with the renovation of the air conditioning cooling tower at 1393 East Broad Street. The air conditioning current cooling tower is in a serious state of disrepair. This state leads to additional maintenance costs and the potential of system failure.

Advanced Engineering Consultants will be responsible for design of a new air conditioning cooling tower, including all associated piping, valves, and electric. The design will include a new digital control system, a new concrete pad, and fencing with gates. Upon completion of the design, the Facilities Management Division will request bids in order to install the new cooling tower.

Per Columbus City Codes 329.10, informal proposals were solicited November 2, 2004, and submitted November 9, 2004. Five proposals were received as follows (1 MBE*, 1 FBE^, 1 MBR+):

The Facilities Management Division recommends the contract award to the most responsive and responsible bidder, Advanced Engineering Consultants.

This ordinance also authorizes the appropriation of $5,900.00 from the unappropriated balance of the General Permanent Improvement Fund.
