Title

 

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Northern Lights Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library and commend the branch and its staff members for their meaningful service to the community.

 

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Northern Lights Branch originally opened in November 1956, marking 70 years of service and dedication to the Columbus community; and

 

WHEREAS, located at 4093 Cleveland Avenue, the Northern Lights Branch plays a critical role in providing resources and services to residents of the Maize-Morse and Northland neighborhoods; and

 

WHEREAS, through services such as its After-School Snack Program, English Conversation Tables, School Help Program and more, the Northern Lights Branch serves as an important resource for vulnerable community members; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2016, the Northern Lights Branch celebrated its grand reopening, following a major expansion and renovation of its former building which more than doubled the facility’s size, thereby maximizing the branch’s capacity to serve residents and expanding its community outreach; and

 

WHEREAS, the Northern Lights Branch is part of the wider Columbus Metropolitan Library network, a staple institute in the Central Ohio community that has been serving Columbus residents for over 150 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Columbus Metropolitan Library logs approximately 5.5 million visits annually across its Main Library and 22 branch locations and lends more than 13 million physical and digital items every year; and

 

WHEREAS, this Council encourages all community members to obtain a library card, visit their local library branch, and make use of the many resources and services the Columbus Metropolitan Library provides; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:  That this Council does hereby celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Northern Lights Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library and commend the branch and its staff members for their meaningful service to the community.
