Explanation

This legislation authorizes the Director of Public Utilities to modify and extend a contract with Dreier and Maller Incorporated for Storm Drainage Catch Basin and Inlet Cleaning Services. Contract language allows for two (2) extension periods. This legislation authorizes an increase to the contract and extends the expiration date to May 31, 2005. This is the first of 2 extensions available per the contract terms

The Division of Sewerage and Drainage, Sewer Maintenance Operations Center utilizes this service to remove and dispose debris from storm sewers and lines at various locations to reduce and prevent street flooding.

This ordinance is being submitted as an emergency so that there is not an interruption in the cleaning of storm sewer lines.

Fiscal Impact: $100,000 is budgeted for this request.

WHEREAS, EL-003328 was established based on competitive bids on February 3, 2003 with the lowest, responsive and responsible bidder Dreier and Maller Inc. and,

WHEREAS,, the contract allows for two (2) extension periods and the Division of Sewerage and Drainage would like to exercise that option, and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Utilities, Division of Sewerage and Drainage so that there is not an interruption in services for the cleaning of storm sewer lines in that it is immediately necessary to modify and extend the contract for Catch Basin and Cleaning Services with Dreier and Maller Incorporated for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, ...
