Explanation
Automated side loader collection vehicles are an integral part of the Refuse Collection Division's mechanized collection
system. This ordinance authorizes the purchase of fifteen (15) automated side loader trucks to replace aging, high
maintenance expense vehicles. Formal competitive bids were solicited and opened by the Purchasing Office on
August 10, 2005 (solicitation #SA001700GRW). The complete refuse collection truck consists of the cab, chassis and
body. Four (4) bids were received for the cabs and chassis as follows:

The lowest bidder that meets specifications is ESEC Corporation's bid for the Peterbilt 320.
An engine warmer was included in the truck specifications which will improve vehicle start up during periods of extreme cold temperatures. This minimizes the need for extended idling periods, thus reducing fuel consumption, and is consistent with the Mayor's "Get Green" initiative.
