Explanation

Background: This legislation modifies and increases a construction contract for the Transportation Division with G & G Cement Contractors for the Morse Road Gateway project in the amount of $15,000.00. The project was originally authorized by Ordinance 1781-2003E passed by City Council on July 21, 2003. It consists of installing retaining walls, trees and other decorative plantings along Morse Road between Indianola Avenue and the I-71 ramps to create an entrance or "gateway" to the commercial section of the roadway. This contract is being modified to pay for additional drains along the embankment to handle the excessive ground water encountered at this site, concrete footer in areas of wet sub-grade and other unforeseen work. Prices were obtained through negotiation with G & G Cement Contractors using past project prices for new items and established unit prices for overruns of existing quantities.

G&G Cement Contractors contract compliance number is 31-0924129 and expires on December 18, 2005.

This is a modification to an existing contract. The original contract amount was for $565,008.50. This is the first modification. The contract total including this modification is $580,008.50.

Fiscal Impact: The Transportation Division budgeted $60,000 in the 2004 Capital Improvements Budget for construction modifications for the Morse Road Interchange Enhancement project. Ordinance 1206-2004 passed Council on July 19, 2004, authorized $50,000 to modify a construction contract with Columbus Asphalt Paving. This ordinance authorizes and expenditure of $15,000 to modify the contract with G & G Cement Contractors for additional drains. The additional $5,000.00 will come from the balance of funds budgeted for the Morse Road Phase I design project, which still has $150,000.00 budgeted after the design contract was approved also in July, 2004.
