Explanation
BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health has been awarded a grant from the Medical Mutual of Ohio Charitable Fund, through The Columbus Foundation, for the 2016 Institute for Active Living Program. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $45,000.00 in grant monies to fund this program for the period of January 1, 2016 through October 31, 2016.
The Institute for Active Living Program objective is to promote active lifestyles and improve the health of all citizens of the City of Columbus. This grant will be utilized to create new, youth cycling clubs, to develop small gardens at early childcare centers, and to support and expand Veggie SNAPS, the Farmer’s Market nutrition incentive program.
This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City’s accounting system as soon as possible given the grant start date of January 1, 2016.
FISCAL IMPACT: The program activity is funded primarily by the Medical Mutual of Ohio Charitable Fund and does not generate revenue nor require a City match.

WHEREAS, grant funding has been made available to Columbus Public Health through the Medical Mutual of Ohio Charitable Fund, through The Columbus Foundation, for the Institute of Active Living Program; and,
