Explanation
BACKGROUND: At the request of City Council, the Planning Division was asked to undertake an initiative to amend The Northwest Plan. The amendment will establish land use provisions for the land located along the east side of Riverside Drive north of Case Road. The purpose of the amendment is to address a series of land use and traffic issues that were identified during a rezoning process for a portion of land in this corridor. The Northwest Plan was initially adopted by City Council on September 16, 1991 as the official plan for the Northwest area. The plan was later amended on September 30, 1996 to address conditions and issues that had been identified since the plan's adoption.The purpose of The Northwest Plan is to establish a series of guidelines that manage the future growth and development of Northwest Columbus. The plan is used as a principal reference document by developers, neighborhood organizations, city staff, The Ohio State University, the Development Commission, and City Council when making decisions concerning the physical development of the planning area.The Northwest Civic Association hosted a public meeting on May 6, 2003 to present and discuss the proposed amendment. Invited to this meeting were designated representatives of the Columbus Board of Realtors, Building Industry Association, Columbus Apartment Association; the trustees of the Northwest Civic Association; and the property owners impacted by the proposed amendment. During the meeting, a consensus was reached on the provisions of the amendment. The Northwest Civic Association endorsed the amendment to the plan on May 7, 2003.
