Explanation
Background:
This ordinance will grant permission to the following group to apply for a temporary liquor permit authorizing the sale of alcoholic beverages at their special event to be held during 2011:
Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization for the Pride 2011 Beer Garden Block Party, June 18-19.
This organization wishes to sell alcoholic beverages to eligible patrons on a city street to be used for the event. This is the first year for this event.
The City of Columbus, acting by and through its Director of Recreation and Parks, is required to grant approval to the organizer of this event so they may obtain the required permit from the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Liquor Control.
Benefits to Public: Allow a street to be the host site for a charitable organization to host an event as a community fundraising endeavor with proceeds going back to the community.
Community Input/Issues: This legislation has the support of the charitable organization that will benefit from its passage. Event coordinator will still need to secure street closure signatures from neighborhood property owners before closing streets.
Emergency Justification: It is immediately necessary to grant consent for this street closure for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, prosperity and safety.
