BACKGROUND:
This ordinance authorizes the Director of Development to enter into a grant agreement with The Columbus Historical Society in an amount up to $750,000.00 for the purpose of renovating Engine House No. 6 to serve as the new home for The Columbus Historical Society. As Columbus continues to grow and welcome more neighbors each year, it is crucial to preserve the historical aspects of the city to foster community and acknowledge and document our full history. The new space will ensure the preservation of a historical landmark with great significance to Columbus and the Franklinton neighborhood. This ordinance also authorizes payment of eligible expenses, including design work and other soft costs, prior to the purchase order beginning August 1, 2025. Payments will be advanced on a predetermined schedule provided in the terms of the agreement.
Emergency action is necessary to ensure the payment per the commitment is made, allowing for the intended renovations to be completed per the organization’s renovation schedule. Renovations will allow for an important historical landmark to be preserved and ensure programs provided by the Columbus Historical Society and be continued.
