Columbus City Council will conduct Special Meeting #1 on Monday - January 13, 2025 at 1:00pm and Special Meeting #2 on Wednesday - January 15, 2025 at 1:00pm to interview finalists considered to fill the District 7 vacant seat created by the departure of Councilmember Shayla Favor.
The executive sessions will be conducted in accordance with Ohio Revised Code, Columbus City Code, and Roberts Rules of Order. No voting will occur during the executive sessions.
During a future Council meeting in early 2025, Councilmembers will formally nominate applicants for the vacancy and vote to appoint a new member. If a majority of Councilmembers vote to appoint a nominee, they will then be eligible to be sworn in under oath and take office pursuant to Section 5 of the City Charter and Section 111.35 of Columbus City Code. The appointed nominee from District 7 will serve the remainder of Councilmember Favor’s term, which expires on December 31, 2025.
The beginning of each special meeting, before the Council enters into executive session, will be broadcast live on CTV, YouTube, and Facebook Live.
In a memo to City Councilmembers, Council President Shannon Hardin provided an outline of the timeline and process to fill the vacancy.
