To Commend and Celebrate Colleen Marshall for her Distinguished Career and 40 years of Service at NBC4

WHEREAS, Colleen Marshall was born in Dunbar, Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, working as a reporter, writer, producer, and editor at various Pennsylvania and West Virginia radio and news organizations before starting her distinguished career at NBC4 in 1984; and
WHEREAS, in 1987, Marshall transitioned from a general assignment reporter to a weekend news anchor and then was promoted again to a weekday news anchor in 1992, where she earned a reputation as a skilled interviewer and a hard-hitting reporter with unimpeachable journalistic standards; and
WHEREAS, while reporting at NBC4, Marshall successfully obtained a law degree from Capital University in 2004, receiving a Trustee’s Scholarship, was named on the dean’s list, and was a member of the prestigious Capital Law Review and National Moot Court Team; and
WHEREAS, Marshall received national acclaim for her work and advocacy regarding Alzheimer’s, LGBTQ+ issues, HIV/AIDS, her coverage of 9/11, multiple interviews with former President Obama, and sexual abuse by an OSU team physician; and
WHEREAS, Marshall has received multiple media and community service awards for her work, most notably, a Stonewall media award in 1999, an Associated Press award in 2012, a national Gracie Award in 2020, and eight regional Emmy awards from NATAS, earning four from a program on her mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, Marshall lives a rich personal life, with her husband, Gary, two children, Garrett and Shannon, she has adopted 18 elderly or disabled shelter animals as a personal passion; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council commends and celebrates Colleen Marshall for her distinguished career and 40 years of service at NBC4.
