To honor the Central Community House, celebrating its 75th year of service to the City of Columbus and helping many people in need.
Body
WHEREAS, the Central Community House was founded in 1936 to create a family-based resource to build up the neighborhood and encourage stable families so that children could grow into well-rounded individuals in the Near East and Near South Side areas of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, since its founding, the Central Community House has furthered the mission to empower people to reach their full potential, to be self-supporting and to live cooperatively with others; and
WHEREAS, services provided by the Central Community House range from basic/emergency needs assistance, food programs, financial literacy, empowerment workshops, a computer lab and an active senior program; and
WHEREAS, through its community organizer, Courtney Rowland, Central Community House works to bring neighbors together to advocate for improvements and work on neighborhood projects; and
WHEREAS, Central Community House has developed programs to support the family unit and foster the healthy development of local youth; and
WHEREAS, the Central Community House's Early Education Child Care Center allows parents to work and attend classes while providing age-appropriate learning for their infants and toddlers; and
WHEREAS, the Central Community House also provides after-school programs for area children which include a Young Astronauts Program, Art in the House, field trips, gardening and healthy living and cultural exploration projects; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council honors the Central Community House for its 75 years of supporting and empowering neighborhoods, families and children in the Columbus area.
