Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Columbus Health Department has been awarded a grant from the United Way of Central Ohio. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $76,960 in grant money to fund the Healthy Children, Healthy Weights program for the period July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.
The Healthy Children, Healthy Weights program provides training and tools to make positive changes in the nutrition and physical activity environments of children in childcare centers, preschools and the home in Franklin County.
This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.
FISCAL IMPACT: The program is primarily funded by the United Way of Central Ohio and does not generate revenue.

To authorize and direct the Columbus Health Department to accept a grant from the United Way of Central Ohio in the amount of $76,960, to authorize the appropriation of $76,960 from the Health Department Grants Fund, and to declare an emergency. ($76,960.00)

WHEREAS, $76,960.00 in grant funds have been made available through the United Way of Central Ohio; and,
WHEREAS, this ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management; and,
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Columbus Health Department in that it is immediately necessary to accept this grant from the United Way of Central Ohio, and to appropriate these funds to the Health Department for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, property, safety, and welfare; Now, therefore:
