To Honor, Recognize, and Celebrate the Retirement of President Randy Quickel

WHEREAS, this Council honors and recognizes Randy Quickel for his outstanding service to his community by giving his skills, energy, time, and commitment toward the betterment of the City of Columbus, and the many members in grocery stores, pharmacy, production, and health care who are support our communities; and

WHEREAS, President Randy Quickel has served as the president of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1059 for 14 years, a role he first assumed in 2010; and

WHEREAS, President Quickel began his career as a UFCW Local 1059 member when he was hired as a Kroger bagger in 1979. He became a Union Representative for his Local Union in 1994, eventually serving as Service Director starting in 2006; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, UFCW Local 1059 has proudly represented nearly 20,000 workers, fighting for fair wages and working conditions for hardworking community members that keep our city running; and
WHEREAS, President Quickel is among the original union leaders to serve as trustee on the UFCW Consolidated Pension Fund and also serves as Chairman on the Heartland Health and Wellness Fund. He had previously served as a Trustee on the Heartland Fund from 2017-2022;
WHEREAS, President Quickel’s stewardship has been defined by an increased use and awareness of technology to benefit working people and ensuring continued support and safe working environments for essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, President Quickel currently serves as an Executive Board member of the UFCW International Union, the Ohio AFL-CIO, and the Central Ohio Labor Council; and

WHEREAS, President Quickel’s many contributions to the fight for better wages and benefits, safer workplaces, and an equitable workplace has long been appreciated and valued across the City of Columbus, and his leadership in the Central Ohio community will be greatly missed; no...
