Columbus City Council extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones on her passing.
 
The first African-American woman elected to the United States House of Representatives from Ohio, and the first African-American woman to chair the House Ethics Committee, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones was a pioneer for African-Americans and women in national politics. In addition to her impact on a national scale, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones was both the first African-American and the first woman to serve as the Cuyahoga County prosecutor as well as the first African-American woman to sit on the Common Pleas bench in the State of Ohio.
 
Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones held a reputation for excellence and compassion in her advocacy, as well as a courageous and determined ardor for the betterment of her constituency. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones was an unquestionable advocate for the residents of her district and the entire City of Cleveland. She will be remembered for her passion on topics that had national and international implications.   A dynamic leader on topics of discrimination, human rights and gender injustice, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones' voice in the fight to end violence against women of all ages was a refreshing source of comfort for victims of these tragedies.
 
A dedicated public servant, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones worked tirelessly to advance the United States as a whole and affect change at all levels of government through forward thinking and a strong voice for the people.  Her devotion to her Cleveland district, the State of Ohio, and her nation will be sorely missed.
 
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Columbus:
 
That this Council does hereby pay tribute to the memory of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones.
