Explanation
This legislation authorizes the construction of the Morse Road Gateway project. This project is the second of five for the Morse Road - Indianola to Cleveland Avenue corridor and consists of retaining walls, trees and other decorative plantings from Indianola Avenue to Sinclair Road and the northeast and southeast corners of the I-71 northbound ramp. The roadway project will feature landscaped median with sidewalks. The Morse Road work is designed to promote neighborhood livability, pedestrian friendliness, as well as business retention and expansion.
Formal competitive bids were solicited and three bids were received from majority firms on June 26, 2003, as follows:
G & G Cement Contractors $565,008.50
Columbus Asphalt Paving, Inc. $632,025.85
Complete General Construction Company $792,985.20
Using responsible contractor criteria, the Transportation Division recommends a bid award to G & G Cement Contractors, cc#31-0924129 expiring December 18, 2005.
An additional $79,326.00 is authorized for construction inspection.
FISCAL IMPACT: This project is budgeted within the Morse Road Area Investment project within the 1995, 1999 Voted Streets and Highways Fund.
Emergency action is requested for the immediate execution of the contract for the earliest possible start of construction so that the project can be completed in 2003.
