To honor and recognize Jimmy Beres, winner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association 2008 State Swimming and Diving Championship.

WHEREAS, Columbus Whetstone High School senior Jimmy Beres, finished first at the Ohio High School Athletic Association 2008 State Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Branin Natatorium; and
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy scored an astonishing 496.7 points throughout the meet, securing fourth through four dives and claiming the championship on his fifth attempt; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to his stellar performance at the state championship meet, Jimmy set a new state record at the 2008 district meet scoring a phenomenal 612.6  points; and
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy began diving competitively as a high school freshman, a relatively short time frame to acquire mastery of the sport, and his recent performance is especially remarkable as he was forced to stop diving throughout the summer and fall due to an injury; and  
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy's state title was a befitting award and the proper conclusion to a high school diving career for an outstanding young man who previously placed tenth in the state meet during his sophomore year and fourth during his junior year; and
 
WHEREAS, Jimmy looks forward to continuing his success when he pursues his collegiate diving career; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby honor and recognize Jimmy Beres, winner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association 2008 State Swimming and Diving Championship, and commends him for bringing this state championship home to the City of Columbus.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be presented to Jimmy Beres during the school-wide assembly held at Whetstone High School, February 28, 2008.
