WHEREAS, through its street lighting program Project 2020, the Division of Electricity contributes to safer, more livable neighborhoods throughout Columbus; and
 
WHEREAS, this vital community service helps prevent crime and aids vehicular safety in neighborhoods, all at no cost to the citizen owners of the Division of Electricity; and
 
WHEREAS, the Division of Electricity's operations are supported solely through the sale of competitively priced electricity to more than 13,500 residential, commercial, industrial and governmental customers; and
 
WHEREAS, throughout its 105 year history the Division of Electricity's employees have put outstanding customer service and system reliability at the top of their list of commitments to the community; and
 
WHEREAS, the Columbus Division of Electricity is part of a community of more than 2,000 publicly owned electric utilities in the United States which provide competition in the electric utility industry for the benefit of their citizen owners; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
 
That this Council does hereby proclaim October 3 - 9, 2004 as Public Power Week in Columbus, Ohio.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the city of Columbus joins others served by locally owned electricity systems in a celebration of public power to heighten awareness of its benefits to the community.
