To recognize and support Amethyst Inc.'s support of September's National Alcohol and Addiction recovery month.

WHEREAS, Since 1984, Amethyst has provided alcohol and drug treatment, supportive housing, intensive case management, education, and employment for homeless women and their children; and
WHEREAS, The Amethyst treatment model allows families to become part of a healing, nurturing community. Treatment focuses on addiction, while emphasizing the roles that poverty and trauma play in perpetrating drug and alcohol use; and
WHEREAS, The average length of stay at Amethyst is 28 months, giving the women and their families the time it takes to recover from their experiences with addiction and trauma; and
WHEREAS, Amethyst exists to nurture and sustain healthy women and families proving long-term addiction, trauma and mental health treatment, integrated with safe and affordable housing; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That Columbus City Council does hereby recognize Amethyst Inc. for their role in supporting women experiencing the disease of addiction and to recognize Amethyst Inc.'s Neighborhood Picnic in support of September's National Alcohol and Addiction recovery month.
