To celebrate July as Disability Pride Month and recognize Open Door as a community leader in providing quality, affirming care for individuals with disabilities

WHEREAS, over 2.6 million Ohioans, 28% of the state’s population, have a disability including nearly 100,000 individuals supported by Ohio’s developmental disabilities system; and,
WHEREAS, Columbus has a proud history of openness and inclusivity, and has developed a variety of accessible hotels, restaurants, attractions, and transportation options around the city; and,
WHEREAS, the month of July marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a landmark piece of legislation that broke down barriers to inclusion in society; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of everyone in our community to respect, affirm, and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities; and,
WHEREAS, Open Door has been a direct care provider for adults with disabilities in central Ohio for more than four decades, with a proven track record of providing quality, affirming support for all people, including members of the LGBTQ+ community; and now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council celebrates July as Disability Pride Month and recognizes Open Door as a community leader in providing quality, affirming care for individuals with disabilities.
