Explanation
Background: This ordinance authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into contract for the Facilities Management Division with General Maintenance and Engineering Company in the amount of $35,528.00 for the renovation of the retaining wall and stairway at 120 West Gay Street. City employees use the stairway to access the parking lot at the bottom of the stairway and Ludlow alley at the top of the stairway. The current concrete stairway connecting the parking lot to Ludlow alley is crumbling. It is unsafe for use and therefore roped off.
Formal proposals were solicited on June 7, 2004. Three firms submitted the following bids on June 22, 2004 (1 MBE*, 1 FBE^):
General Maintenance & Engineering Co. $35,528.00
Dorsey Construction Co. $35,860.00*^
Righter Co., Inc. $70,400.00
The Facilities Management Division recommends the bid award to General Maintenance & Engineering as the most responsive and responsible bidder.
Emergency action is requested so that the contractor will be able to complete this project during good weather.
Fiscal Impact: The Facilities Management Division budgeted $50,000 for this renovation in the Capital Improvement Budget. The total cost of the contract is $35,528.00. The remaining balance of funds will be available for use on other capital improvements or as a contingency. Contract Compliance No. 31-4188545, expiration date 02/26/2005.
