Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Columbus Health Department Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program has a need to increase a contract to continue to meet the demand for language interpretation and written translation services for persons with limited English proficiency who receive services at the Health Department WIC clinics. The contract period is October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010. This contract modification will be in an amount not to exceed $35,000.00, for a total contract not to exceed $70,000.00. The contract compliance number for Access 2 Interpreters, LLC is 760803722. Access 2 Interpreters, LLC is contract compliant through July 28, 2010.
The contract period is October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010.
Emergency action is requested in order to avoid any delays in providing program services.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Women, Infants and Children Program is entirely funded by the Ohio Department of Health. This program does not generate any revenue or require a City match.

To authorize and direct the Board of Health to modify a contract with Access 2 Interpreters, LLC for increased interpretation/translation services at the WIC clinics; to authorize the expenditure of $35,000.00 from the Health Department Grants Fund; and to declare an emergency. ($35,000.00)

WHEREAS, a need exists for increased language interpretation and written translation services for persons with limited English proficiency who receive services at the Health Department WIC clinics; and,
WHEREAS, this ordinance is being submitted as an emergency measure so that timely procurement of needed services will allow the services to proceed without delay; and,
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Health Department in that it is immediately necessary to increase this contract for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, property, safety and welfare; Now, therefore,
