Explanation

This legislation authorizes the Director of Public Utilities to modify and extend a contract with Dreier and Maller Incorporated for Storm Drainage Catch Basin and Inlet Cleaning Services. Contract language allows for two (2) extension periods. This legislation authorizes an increase to the contract and extends the expiration date to May 31, 2006. This is the last of extensions available per the contract terms

The Division of Sewerage and Drainage, Sewer Maintenance Operations Center utilizes this service to remove and dispose debris from storm sewers and entire lengths of lead lines at various locations to reduce and prevent street flooding. The Director of Public Utilities opened bids on February 5, 2003. Two (2) bids were received:

Dreier and Maller Incorporated: 77,000.00
AAA Pipe Cleaning Corporation: 122,000.00

FISCAL IMPACT: $100,000 is budgeted for this request.

This ordinance is being submitted as an emergency so that there is not an interruption in the cleaning of storm sewer lines.

WHEREAS: the Division of Sewerage and Drainage wished to modify and extend EL-004295 and,

WHEREAS, the contract allows for two (2) extension periods and the Division of Sewerage and Drainage would like to exercise that option, and

WHEREAS, this is the last of the extensions for this contract and the Division of Sewerage and Drainage will solicit bids in late 2005 for another contract period, and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Utilities, Division of Sewerage ...
