To Recognize the Historic Contributions of the Irish Community to the City of Columbus, Ohio and Celebrate March 17, 2025 as St. Patrick’s Day

WHEREAS, for more than a century the Irish community of Columbus has played a significant role in shaping the history, culture, and economic development of Columbus, with Irish immigrants and their descendants acting as invaluable contributors to the city’s vibrancy; and
WHEREAS, the Irish American community in Columbus has preserved and celebrated its rich cultural heritage through festivals, music, dance, fostering a deep appreciation for Irish traditions and history; and
WHEREAS, organizations like the Shamrock Club of Columbus and their fellow Irish sister organizations play a critical role in preserving Irish culture in the region, serving the community with unmatched love, vigor, and authenticity; and
WHEREAS, Irish Americans have served with distinction in public service, business, education, and civic leadership including in local government, law enforcement, and the armed forces, helping to build a more inclusive and prosperous Columbus through their leadership, dedication, and commitment to the public good; and
WHEREAS, St. Patrick’s Day, Proclamation Day and other Irish cultural celebrations have become cherished traditions in Columbus, bringing together residents of all backgrounds to honor the resilience, spirit, and contributions of the Irish people; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus recognizes the countless and invaluable contributions of its Irish American residents and seeks to honor their lasting impact on the city's history, culture, and progress; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council hereby recognizes the historic contributions of the Irish community to the City of Columbus and celebrates March 17, 2025 as St. Patrick’s Day.
