To honor the lives and sacrifice of Officer Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering of the Westerville Police Department and extend our condolences to their families

WHEREAS, On Saturday, February 10, Officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering responded to a 911 call in the 300 block of Cross Wind Drive, which turned deadly, leaving both Officers fatally wounded; and
WHEREAS, Officer Morelli served the Westerville Police Department as a patrol and school resource officer for nearly 30 years. He is remembered for his kindness and patience in working with students at Blendon Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Officer Joering, who served the residents of Westerville for more than 16 years as a Police and K9 Officer, was known for being a proud hometown boy. Graduating from Westerville South in 1997, he is remembered for his friendly, positive, and generous demeanor; and
WHEREAS, everyday first responders put themselves in harm’s way to serve and protect residents. Officers Joering and Morelli exemplified the mantra of service above self; and
WHEREAS, This Council express its condolences to the families and friends of the Officers. May the community provide support during this time of tragedy and hardship; and
WHEREAS, This Council would also like to express its support for the Westerville community during this time of loss; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor the lives and sacrifice of Officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering of the Westerville Police Department and extends our deepest condolences and support to their families and the Westerville Community.
