Explanation
Background: This legislation authorizes the City to enter into a contract in an amount up to $417,250.07 for the Long Street, Burt Street, Curb and Walk Replacement project and to pay construction inspection costs up to $59,868.00. This improvement details construction on Long Street bounded between Champion Avenue and Taylor Avenue and on Burt Street bounded between Hawthorne Street and Eastwood Street and includes sidewalk, curb replacement, curb ramps, planning, and other associated work. (See the attached map.) The estimated Notice to Proceed date is May 1, 2006. This project is to be constructed by July 17, 2006. The project was let by the Transportation Division and was advertised in the City Bulletin, Dodge Reports, and by the Builders Exchange. Six bidders/suppliers were solicited (four majority, two minority) and five bids were received (four majority, one minority) and tabulated on June 30, 2005, as follows:

Award is to be made to G & G Cement Contractors CC# 31-0924129 (expiration 12/18/2005), as the lowest, best, most responsive and most responsible bidder.
Fiscal Impact: The Transportation Division budgeted $500,000 in the 2005 Capital Improvements Budget in the Urban Infrastructure project for construction of the Long Street, Burt Street, Curb and Walk replacement project. Actual funds will be available in the 1995, 1999 Voted Streets and Highways Fund as a result of the Fall 2005 bond sale. This ordinance authorizes an expenditure of $477,118.07.
