To Honor and Recognize the 50thAnniversary of the Olde Towne East Neighborhood Association and mark August 27 as Olde Towne East Day

WHEREAS, OTENA was founded in 1975 to preserve the character and vitality of the neighborhood, working to secure historic district status, protect architectural heritage, and empower residents through civic involvement and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Olde Towne East is one of Columbus’s oldest and most architecturally diverse neighborhoods, with over 1,000 historic homes reflecting more than 50 styles-from Federal and Victorian to Queen Anne and Craftsman-offering a living archive of the city’s growth and evolution since the late 19th century; and
WHEREAS, the association’s early efforts helped shape a long-term vision for revitalization that prioritized both preservation and equity, laying the foundation for a neighborhood that values history, diversity, and inclusive growth; and
WHEREAS, OTENA continues to build community today through signature events such as the annual Summer Tour of Homes, Trash to Treasure neighborhood yard sale, Music in the Garden concert series, and Holiday Lighting Contest, each drawing neighbors together and celebrating Olde Towne East’s unique spirit; and
WHEREAS, OTENA supports environmental sustainability and food access through its management of the Oak Street Community Garden, a public green space that fosters connection, education, and healthy living; and
WHEREAS, the association promotes civic engagement by hosting monthly public meetings, providing updates through newsletters and social media, and collaborating with the Near East Area Commission and City of Columbus to ensure resident voices are heard on zoning, development, and infrastructure issues; and
