Explanation
This ordinance accepts a grant from The Columbus Police Foundation in the amount of $250,000.00 for the Columbus Division of Police. The money will be designated to the Department of Safety, Division of Police, to establish and house a new police facility, Crime Gun Intelligence Center; 16th Precinct Patrol Substation, and Community Response Team 5. This award will fund the reallocation, acquisition, and installation of new furniture and technology needs for the new facility.
FISCAL IMPACT: This ordinance authorizes the acceptance and appropriation of a $250,000.00 grant award from the Columbus Police Foundation. This is a new private grant award to establish and house a new police facility, Crime Gun Intelligence Center; 16th Precinct Patrol Substation, and Community Response Team 5. This grant funded initiative does not generate any revenue nor require a city match.

To authorize and direct the Director of the Department of Public Safety to accept a grant from The Columbus Police Foundation; and to authorize and direct the City Auditor to appropriate $250,000.00 within the unallocated balance of the Division of Police Grant Fund. ($250,000.00)

WHEREAS, in June 2026, the city received a grant from The Columbus Police Foundation; and
WHEREAS, City Council must authorize acceptance of this grant; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That the Director of the Department of Public Safety is hereby authorized and directed to accept a grant award of $250,000.00 from The Columbus Police Foundation.
SECTION 2. That the City Auditor is hereby authorized and directed to appropriate $250,000.00 to the Department of Public Safety per the accounting codes in the attachment to this ordinance.
SECTION 3. That the City Auditor is hereby authorized to transfer appropriations between object classes as needed, upon request by the Department of Public Safety, Division of Police.
