To recognize, honor and celebrate Judge James Edward Green on his retirement from Franklin County Municipal Court.


Body

WHEREAS, Judge Green was appointed to the Franklin County Municipal Court in 1994, having passionately served the residents of Franklin County for over thirty-one years; and

WHEREAS, Judge Green was the longest serving African American on the bench and the second longest serving judge on the Municipal Court, executing his role with a balanced judicial temperament that empowers through seeking alternatives to incarceration, reducing recidivism, and strengthening the Columbus Community; and

WHEREAS, during his time on the Franklin County Municipal Court, Judge Green presided over more than 480,000 cases, performed more than 3,500 weddings; and

WHEREAS, as an Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor, Judge Green devoted himself to sharing his wisdom with constituents by teaching at the Columbus Police Academy and Columbus State Community College, and freely and enthusiastically supporting countless K-12 students with scholarships and donations; and

WHEREAS, Judge Green served as a tireless advocate to connect constituents with the justice system. Judge Green dedicated his time to providing a platform for citizens to learn about the law and the legal system. During shadowing visits, Judge Green directed guests to assume the duties of the bailiff by opening court, processing files, and interacting with various court personnel, thus increasing access and demystifying the justice system while meaningfully impacting the community; and

WHEREAS, Judge Green enriched the lives of those in and around Franklin County by serving as an honorable and distinct leader that knows no boundaries. Judge Green’s leadership characterized him as a nonprofit benefactor, public speaker, civic leader, professor, mentor, trail blazer, and collaborator.
