Title: To authorize and direct the Finance and Management Director to sell to Firefighter Kari Lindberg, for the sum of $1.00, a Bomb Squad canine with the registered name "Jackson", which has no further value to the Division of Fire; and to waive the provisions of the Columbus City Codes - Sale of City-Owned Personal Property. Explanation

BACKGROUND: Canine "Jackson", a Bomb Squad dog, was acquired by the Division of Fire in 2011; "Jackson" will be retiring from active service effective September 20, 2019 and will continue living with his handler, Firefighter Kari Lindberg, who will be retiring from service on the same date.

It is recommended that "Jackson" be sold to Firefighter Lindberg, who will continue to provide a good home to this canine that has served the citizens of Columbus for the past eight (8) years. Firefighter Lindberg has signed a general release document that relinquishes the City of Columbus from any liability as it relates to the post-retirement care and control of Bomb Squad canine "Jackson," and assigns that liability to Firefighter Lindberg.

FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact upon the Fire Division due to this ordinance.

WHEREAS, it is recommended that canine "Jackson", a soon to be retired Bomb Squad dog with the Division of Fire since 2011, is authorized to be sold to handler Firefighter Kari Lindberg; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to waive the relevant provisions of Chapter 329 of City Code relating to the Sale of City-Owned Personal Property to permit the aforementioned sale; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to allow this canine to be purchased by Firefighter Kari Lindberg for the sum of $1.00; and,

WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the City to authorize the sale of this canine in order to preserve the public, health, safety, and welfare; now, therefore:
