Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Franklin Park Conservatory.

WHEREAS, this fall, the Columbus Jewish Federation will begin its 85th year of service to the Central Ohio Jewish Community; and
 
WHEREAS, the Columbus Jewish Federation was founded in 1926 and has as its cornerstone the centuries-old belief that social justice (known as Tzedakah) is a community responsibility.  This belief translates into the practice of each Jewish person having the responsibility to help other Jewish people; one responsible for the other---one family, one community, one people; and
 
WHEREAS, today, the Columbus Jewish Federation is made up of more than 500 volunteers and 4,000 contributors; and
 
WHEREAS, these Columbus Jewish Federation volunteers and contributors are dedicated to the strengthening of their community and securing a vital future for Jewish life worldwide; and
 
WHEREAS, the Columbus Jewish Federation partners with local, national and international organizations to promote Israel advocacy, Jewish education and identity, tolerance and understanding.; and
 
WHEREAS, the Columbus Jewish Federation works with its partner agencies to ensure that no Jewish person in Central Ohio goes hungry or becomes homeless; and
 
WHEREAS, the Columbus Jewish Federation works to provide help, hope and opportunity to approximately 22,000 Jewish people in Central Ohio and 13 million Jews around the world; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we recognize and celebrate the 85th Annual Meeting of the Columbus Jewish Federation to be held September 15, 2011, and its invaluable service to the Jewish Community of Central Ohio since 1926.
