Explanation

This legislation authorizes the Administrative and Presiding Judge of the Franklin County Municipal Court to accept a grant from Franklin County (Treasurer's and Prosecutor's Office), for implementation and management of the Franklin County Foreclosure Mediation Project. The Courts Mediation Department will manage and provide the County's foreclosure mediations. This legislation also will appropriate $540,000 from the general government grant fund. Grant monies will fund the program cost, supplies, printing, mailing and administrative costs for the Franklin County Municipal Court from November 1, 2008 through October 31, 2010

EMERGENCY ACTION is requested in order for this new cycle of funding to be in place as close to November 1, 2008 as possible.

Body

WHEREAS, grant monies from Franklin County, in the amount of $540,000 are available to provide for implementation and management of the Franklin County Foreclosure Mediation Project; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operations of the city in that it is immediately necessary to accept the aforesaid grant for mediation services, and to appropriate the aforementioned funds to assure that this grant cycle can and will be able to commence as close to November 1, 2008 as possible, thereby preserving the public health, peace, property, safety and welfare; now, therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
