In Memory of Loretta Heard
To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of the late Loretta Heard and to extend sincere condolences to the family and friends on the sorrowful occasion of her passing.
Loretta was a six-term Columbus Board of Education member as well as the first black president of the Columbus PTA citywide council, president of the National Organization-The Council of Great City Schools, and president of the Ohio Community Education Association.
Loretta has received numerous awards both national and local for her exemplary service to the youth and for her compassion for education.
Her husband of 49 years Hubert, and children Howard (Tracy), Lindell, Robert (Rhonda), two grandchildren Robin and Royce and a host of relatives and friends survive Loretta.
Loretta left an indelible impression on the people whose lives she touched, and she will be remembered for her generosity, talent and seemingly inexhaustible energy. Clearly, the world is a richer place for Loretta having been in it. She will be sorely missed; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby pay tribute to the memory of a champion for children, Mrs. Loretta Heard.
