Explanation

Background:
- Bids were received by the Recreation and Parks Department on June 8, 2004, for the Livingston Park Improvement Project, as follows:

McDaniels Construction MBE $ 90,968.00
Miller Pavement Majority $101,547.00

- Project includes pavement improvements and landscaping.
- The Contract Compliance Number for McDaniels Construction, is #31-1145406.
- The approximate cost of Recreation and Parks staff time on this project is $4,000.00 (03-021).
- A contingency amount of $5,032.00 is being included in this project.
- Emergency action is necessary as sidewalk and pavement is in poor condition and presents a safety issue.
Fiscal Impact:
- $100,000.00 is required and budgeted within the Voted 1995 and 1999 Parks and Recreation Bond Fund to meet the financial obligation of this contract.

To authorize and direct the Director of Recreation and Parks to enter into contract with McDaniels Construction, for the Livingston Park Improvements Project, to authorize the expenditure of $100,000.00 from the Voted 1995 and 1999 Parks and Recreation Bond Fund, and to declare an emergency. ($100,000.00)

Body

WHEREAS, bids were received by the Recreation and Parks Department on June 8, 2004, and the contract for the Livingston Park Improvements Project will be awarded on the basis of the lowest and best responsive and responsible bidder; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to enter into said contract as the sidewalk and pavement are in poor condition and have created a safety issue; now, therefore

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
